The importance of a structured routine.
Hello everyone and welcome to my first blog.
My name is Chavonne and I'm a recovery drug addict, been on this journey for 14 years and I am grateful to share my experiences, struggles and victories throughout this recovery journey.
Living through recovery after rehabilitation requires ongoing commitment and support.
Here are some practical tips in establishing a structured routine whilst Living through recovery:
Celebrating 14 years free from addiction ,I can boldly say that commitment to a structured routine in your daily life is one of the key elements in maintaining sobriety.
I always advise individuals facing substance abuse challenges to have themselves admitted into a rehabilitation facility and the main reason for that is because of the discipline that comes with the structured routine and rules the individual has to adhere to,it was a blessing in disguise to me ,therefore i strongly recommend it.
Coming from a chaotic environment where there is complete disorder and confusion whilst being in active addiction, discipline and a constructive structured routine is a definite secure foundation for reaching many milestones on your recovery journey.
Running a support group for individuals facing substance abuse challenges, creating a constructive daily routine was always the first piece of homework I assigned them, and it was always the most challenging for them to complete.
And I agreed with them,to build a new healthy new lifestyle can be very challenging, but I always motivated them that Recovery is hard work but the fruits of this harvest will be sweet ,so focus and start planting those seeds.
I created and build my structured routine around creating a balance in my life
•Worship
•Work
•Play
•Rest
In active addiction all I did was Play and Rest
*Rebuilding a healthy lifestyle I understood the importance of having a personal relationship with my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.(Worship)
*Rebuilding a healthy lifestyle I realised I could be anything I want, there was so much room to choose a new career, learn a new skill or further my education (Work)
*Rebuilding a healthy lifestyle opened up my mind to new hobbies and interests,I enjoy hiking, writing ,I could literally choose what my "playtime" activities would be and I settled on healthy and enriching.(Play)
*Rebuilding a healthy lifestyle I understood the importance of "Rest" and it not only means sleep,it can also be to reset, readjust, taking time out for self-care ,working on myself, the good and bad.
All of the above I used to create a constructive routine planner for daily living and to protect my sobriety,it enabled me to think clearer and make rational decisions.
It also created a sense of stability for challenges to come, and every time I felt or feels that my balance is off ,i check to see is my structure still in place,
If for some reason it was not there was also the welcoming option to reset,Rest and start again.
Sustaining a journey of lifelong recovery is about a renewed mind daily,in order not to fall back into old habits and patterns, Invest quality time into your recovery daily by being positive and commited to your daily structured routine.
Soul food for the journey ahead:
